Help identify this CSA general

The Chrysler Museum of Art identifies this man as Brig. Gen. Laurence S. Balia, C.S.A., Va.

I think he is Laurence S. Baker

Balia/Baker, yes. If I had a time machine, I'd send those old guys a load of typewriters.

Here is a Baker that can so easily be read as a "Balia":

I have come upon many misspellings in researching my own family in Civil War records. It happens quite a lot with names.

I agree that the photo and the illustration are of the same person and that would appear to be Laurence S. Baker.

Thank you everyone! Yesterday I sent an e-mail to the museum with a link to this thread. Today I got a reply. The Assistant Registrar will forward my e-mail to the Curator of American Art. We had another fine team effort!
