I have a solid sabre here and am trying to ID it but too many variables it would seem . the blade is 89 cm long and the whole sabre is 104cms. It is marked Alex Coppel Solingen and has two other

I think Glen_C has identified it. The scales logo is the Alex Coppel makers mark. The crown over D and crown over C are government inspection/acceptance marks. Since the inspection/acceptance marks are Germanic, i.e. from one of the German states prior to WW1, I would guess this is a post American Civil War period European sword.

While the trial and first contract model 1840 heavy cavalry swords by S&K have similar inspection marks, this is well documented in Thillmann's book on cavalry and artillery sabers. I don't recall similar stampings being mentioned for any non-S&K swords. It is my understanding that other swords imported from Europe will show a maker's mark, an importer's logo, both or nothing at all. It is also my understanding that those that are without markings are NOT that way because they were being shipped to the South.

My usual disclaimer is that I am not an expert so you may want to verify what I have written for yourself.
