Headstone reset

A thread in the ancestry forum made me think that some might be interested to see how a CW period marker is properly reset. These markers typically weigh between 185 and 200 pounds and have usually sunk quite a ways. I've done at least 50 of these and while I and my partner were able to do a few without a lift most required a tripod lift. We also had use of a 4x4 utility vehicle to carry all our gear and six buckets of gravel.

The man doing the work is someone I respect and who has a number of YouTube videos on cemetery preservation. His name is Wade Fowler and he trained under Jonathan Appell, one of the premier cemetery preservationists in the US (he got the contract to repair and reset the oldest headstone in the US at Jamestown, VA). I had the honor to correspond with both men when I was still doing preservation work.

Thanks but I just chose the video because it's a good one and shows the proper procedure; i.e. didn't choose him for his state.

I didn't know the cemetery but did a quick search on findagrave and found it:

James Leonard Battles (1822-1897) - Find a Grave...

Cemetery register # B-32 Listed in 1880 census Civil War veterans records have DOD as June 18, 1897. Enlisted in Company H, Minnesota 6th Infantry Regiment on 05 Aug 1862. Transferred out of the 6th MN on November 18, 1863 and into Company K, 23rd Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps.
