This revolver is at an auction, they say the grips signify an officer in 5th corps, 1st division of Army of the Potomac.

Anyone ever seen anything similar, thoughts as to authenticity?

I haven't seen it in person, but from pics I thought the grips look like could be newer then the gun.......

This is the one I was really interested in, provenence to a named individual in 4th NHV, as I really want a cased one, but already going out of my price range......

Which one? The grips is supposed based just on the grips. The cased one has letters from the family.

Another thing I thought odd about the one, grips is one side has an inlay that looks made for inscription.......... Would seem odd to do the customization of symbology and inscription plate to not then had it inscribed.

It matters little me as my dog isn't in the fight on either, I would have been interested in the cased one to a price point as I want a cased one. It has matching serial numbers and military inspection marks. Would have bought the gun not the story on it........the story has no meaning to me anyway as have no connection to NH whatsoever.

In the picture of the colt with the inlays, is there some kind of a butt cap on the bottom of the grips, it looks like there's some kind of cap.

My question regarding the grips; did the owner take off the original grips and had them inlayed, or did he purchase new grips with the inlays on them? Were inlayed grips available after the war for monumental purposes? It's kind of an unusual pistol with the inlays. You could always buy a box and get your own accessories for it.

It does have a cap like a Joslyn. I was focused on the inlays

The grip one has little details other then the two symbols inlaid are supposed to reflect 5th Corps, 1st div, AoP, no known connection to any family, nor does it detail if s/n match, from the pictures I thought metal looks worse for wear of the two.

Both are at an auction not to far from me, anymore auctions have an online component, if the one I was interested in wasn't already out of my price range would have drove to look at it. Also has a 13mm German T-Gewehr anti tank rifle that would be neat, also well past my price range.

Asked about the grips as hadn't seen any similiar, that gun is actually affordable, so suspect most doubt its condition and the grips claim.

Correction description says the grip one is 1862 Colt 1860 Army also has matching S/N 52558 with military inspection marks and 8 inch barrel

The cased one a 1863 model 1860 Army with S/N's 105492 with a scarce 7.75 barrel.
