"Gramps" genealogy software

Is anyone else here using the free "Gramps" genealogy software in their family History research? I installed the Linux version on my new Chromebook, and am just getting familiar with it. Based on my limited use of it so far, it seems like a very comprehensive software package that rivals paid software like FamilyTreeMaker that I have used in the past. I am in the process of copying much of the info from my online tree at Ancestry.com to Gramps.

I was able to download my online tree from ancestry.com, and upload to Gramps, though most media and notes did not transfer over; so I am having to manually copy much of the media that I want to have stored locally. Just curious to know if others are using or have experience with this software.

Could you please give a description of that software's user-friendliness? I am interested to hear how the process of building/ rebuilding your tree is. I have found one of the most arduous & painful processes of ancestry is replicating the tree in different websites as GEDCOM files are notoriously bereft of the detail we actually want to capture.

As a newbie user, it does not seem especially user-friendly so far. That was partly why I was hoping to find other users that may be able to provide helpful tips from experience with the interface. Using Google search and some YouTube tutorials, I have been able to figure out how to configure the workspace in a manner that seems to work well for seeing what information I have, and adding new information manually (screen capture below). But it seems the process of adding media/notes that were lost in the transfer from the online tree will be as tedious as you describe. I am sure that I am only using a tiny fraction of the software's capabilities.

It's free, open-source software that seems to be part of a group effort by genealogists and code developers.

Thank you for the explanation and screenshot. If I can muster the will to redo the tree again I might give Gramps a try.

I've replicated my tree to varied degrees on Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, MyHeritage.com, and a few others but my favorite by far is WikiTree.com. I like the ability to add sources, write biographies, and the online community has been very helpful. The general visual format of "Gramps" looks similar to Wikitree.com.
