That was actually in Cowan, on a retreat Bragg had ordered, leaving eastern Tennessee unprotected and the people unhappy about it. Forrest was cantering along when the woman verbally assaulted him. She'd been shouting at all the troopers hurrying past her door and pounced on Forrest because of his size. "You great big cowardly rascal!" she yelled. "Why don't you fight? If Old Forrest was here, he'd make you fight!" Old Forrest said he'd rather face a Yankee battery than that woman!
