Alright, so I've been to Shiloh a few times. I understand the basics of the battle and (generally speaking) the troop movements.

The reason I'm posting this is to see if there is anything that is "off the beaten path" or nuance that may not be general knowledge that I should check out. My ancestor fought with the 1st TN (CS) at Shiloh, so anything pertaining to the AOM, First Army Corps, 2nd Division, 2nd Brigade would be extra exciting to find out. Not to be, you know, too specific or anything... haha.

Every time I go to Shiloh I am overcome with what took place there. It's an emotional experience and my mind just begins to race, so to be organized this time is key for me.

Thanks y'all.

Didn't end up making it. My partner in crime rescheduled, heh.

Emily, after watching "Andersonville" the series I really want to go as well. I can't imagine the hell those men went through. There's a lot to be said about that place.

Seriously Murray. Let's go! Where did you find that series? I want to see it. We watched a documentary about it last winter at work for part of our interpretation training. It's so sad to think how those men suffered there.
I'm sorry your trip didn't work out. I'm wanting to use some of my vacation time to go to Virginia or Maryland in the spring. Going to Antietem, Fredericksburg and Appomattox Courthouse would make my life. Road trip ?

Please pardon any spelling errors. For some reason my phone always goes on the Fritz when I'm on the site.

Went to the battlefield with my family when I was a kid. So many of my ancestors were there, but I didn't know it then. Would be interesting to see it now.
It's definitely a much different experience when you realize the significance of certain areas. I do not look at Wedowee Alabama thesame anymore when I visit family now that I know so much about my relatives who fought out of that area.

Most of mine missed Shiloh, b/c the Tennesseans were captured at Fort Donelson. The Mississippians were there, though.

Emily, I believe I'd thoroughly enjoy that! We need to make it happen!

TerryB, I can't go anymore without getting emotional. Knowing that my G-G-Grandfather was a second away from death in the very place you're visiting is humbling. If he would've died I wouldn't be typing this sentence.

Who are your Tennessean ancestors? I had virtually a whole company of ancestors get captures at Fort Donelson. They rode with the 9th TN Cav Batallion. Co. A. They're the Irvines.
