When my family vacationed out East, I was 8 years old. When we got to Gettysburg, I stood up in the front seat and said, "I've been here before...wore gray...on a horse..." Mom told me that story until she died recently. I am now 60, and have read every Civil War book I can get my hands on. I just got back from Gettysburg, and didn't feel that "tingle" with my private guide, until I asked him to go to East Cavalry Field. There I got a huge lump in my throat, shook, as I told him to stop--this was the place I had MANY dreams of (always the same one). I was a major and shot off my horse. The guide turned white as I told him my story and showed him a marker he had not seen in his 45 years at Gettysburg...he half-whispered. "you WERE here..." Anyone else have this experience?

Well, I didn't have as specific a remembrance as you but I did have a memorable childhood Gettysburg experience. I told of it when I first joined up here so won't repeat myself. Suffice it to say I did feel - at perhaps six years of age - that I'd been there on the very spot where we stood; lost track of my parents and a sense of the present for a while. I remember the experience vividly today (I'm 65) and am not one who generally believes in past lives or spirits and such. I believe you.

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome to CWT from Southern California. What was the marker for? Any name attached to it?
Hi-It was Cobbs Legion. And the guide giggled when i told him on Little Round Top that I was in a Georgia cavalry regiment. He said there were no Georgia cavalry at Gettysburg--I insisted there was, and I was in it. That's why he got spooked when I told him at the marker "This is where I was shot."

That's a pretty amazing and interesting story. I think you'll find plenty of folks here who have had experiences which were "beyond normal". I will look forward to reading more as this thread grows. Welcome from Missouri.
Thanks, Patrick. My same dream for 52 years, in exact detail every time, makes me think I WAS there.

Thanks, John. I too am a person who doesn't generally believe in that such thing either. But somehow I know I was there, and, after shooting 2 Yanks, was shot in the chest...(always exactly the same detail in my dreams for 52 of my 60 years).

Welcome from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Very interesting story.
Great quote--and thanks for the welcome. True story...I'm now finally attempting to find my ancestors who were at Gettysburg in particular, and the war in general. But there's lost papers and such, so I can't find names--all grandparents and my parents are deceased...I don't know if we are supposed to say our last names here-are we?

I had no luck in the "chat room", and don't know how I got to this site?! (Not a computer whiz at all). How did I, he asked embarrassingly...
