Spring has sprung on the Gettysburg battlefield. Friday's weather was perfect! Bluebells, red bud in full bloom, and lots of bright sunshine!

It totally doesn't fit with the historical weather at the time of the battle, but if you think figuratively, then the idea of nature returning to life and renewal even in the face of such carnage as that at Gettysburg certainly fits. The trees are leafing out, the wildflowers are blooming, there are frogs' eggs in the ponds and streams like Plum Run . . . life goes on.

Beautiful! I didn't redbuds ranged that far north. Is that a dogwood on the right side of the road in last picture? The east Texas woods were full of both about a month ago.

Yes, there were still a few dogwoods blooming, but many of them are past their peak by now.

so in the springtime, are most of the shops and restaurants open around Gettysburg? My trip to Gettysburg isn't complete without a piece or two of the Dobbin House's famous gingerbread with hot lemon sauce

Oh, definitely. Dobbin House, Farnsworth House, the various bookstores and souvenir shops--all open. Unlike a shore town, Gettysburg stays open year-round. The only things that don't open up until it gets warmer and fuller is the restrooms on the field, and the portapotties!

We were there last Sunday and it was absolutely beautiful. I love Gettysburg when the redbud blooms. And I always look for that patch of daffodils that bloom every spring in the field on Oak Ridge.

Hi, I assume there will a LOT of visitor's for this 150th anniversary, should I visit in the fall instead?

Well, I wouldn't go around the beginning of July, no. That said, my family and I are going for our usual trip at the end of July for a few days. But the fall is pretty too, and yes, emptier.

I never heard of that! Where is it on Oak Ridge?

Go past all the monuments on Oak Ridge and the bed and breakfast and after you make the sharp right hand turn there are the woods. Right after you pass the woods the daffodils are in that field.
