Gettysburg Monuments

I find that (especially at Gettysburg), the monuments tell the stories of the men who fought there, as the majority of the Union monuments were erected by the surviving members of those regiments. They are all unique and showcase what was important to those men in what represents them (Sallie for example as in my avatar). It helps put the sheer numbers of men involved into perspective as well.
While they don't always accurately represent exact positions or movements, they also add to the understanding of they ebb and flow of the battle.

To be fair, I can see why an individual is not a fan of a battlefield filled with monuments.

The first time I visited the Pea Ridge National Military Park, I was amazed on the lack of monuments. What the visitor observes is what the Federal/Confederate soldier observed. There is definitely a bit of magic visiting a battlefield not filled with monuments.

I can only speak for myself but I love them all!
