Haven't had time ( spare, un-spare, lost, stolen, borrowed or stitched in ) to do much with photos. It's probably insulting to post a photo of a barn then tell anyone here
which Gettysburg barn so will refrain. There are a lot from various areas, better not insert all at once.
A little all over the place. It's typical when there's a Gettysburg trip. please excuse.
Have more " CWT " photos, thought these from when we were finally able to glue the snake bits together would be interesting because there's a lot of folks from all the heck all over. ( ' Snips' of photographs, probably do not get larger? )
Have a few, all of us staring at this thing like we have each time we've all encountered it since birth. It'd be a great ' caption this ', for Ami. " Good Heavens. There's a gosh darned
hole in that barn. Do you think we should tell someone? "
From an old photo, unsure what year
LRT towards Devil's Den- and beyond
Sorry, I just like barns so there are a few....
Haven't been able to see one which was not used as a hospital- so cannot imagine the scenes inside. They always get to me.
See the bricked-in doorway? Have been meaning to ' visit ' it for a long time. Here's why, Fred and ( I think George- baby John was pretty young,b. 1861 ) on the tiny porch here. Elizabeth and Peter Thorn's children. Not sure anyone has ever stated they are, no idea who else would be sitting on the Gatehouse porch. Ages are right, Elizabeth moved back in July 7th.
No wasted time- wish this were a witness tree. Thankfully Pam and Loyalty of Dogs were there and of course knew it is not or would have seen tragic sacrifices to ego. Guesses where and whose ego?
Been poking around here forever. Had to make time to get to the National Cemetery again. JPK Huson is in the National Cemetery as an unknown- family legend has him buried on the field although there is no proof beyond this. He is nowhere in New York and certainly not in our family cemetery. A train was booked from New York carrying fathers and family members to Gettysburg, to collect wounded sons. They also returned with the dead. Some families either could not find their sons in the shambles or elected to have them remain where they fell. His parents had lost 2 sons in as many years, James would make 3. Both brothers lay where they perished, Richmond and Shiloh.
Given Weaver and Biggs systematically disinterred soldiers from each part of the battlefield it makes some kind of sense JPK would be an unknown buried near a fallen soldier from his regiment and company, who fell in the same action. There are several next to Private Charles W. Gaylord of Company B, killed in the same action as James Huson. Without stating ' Yes, one of these unknown men is JPK ', it is probably as close as we will get.
