My son was at Gettysburg on Tues. He took this photo. We forget just how amazing this memorial is. I hope the NPS via our government does not remove it.

You may be pleased to know, @Norman Dasinger Jr, that the Park Service has just announced it will begin preservation work next Tuesday to restore the weathered patina on the Virginia Memorial. They expect the project to be completed by Sept. 30.

There are many amazing monuments at Gettysburg.

It is my favorite battlefield and I have visited LOTS of them.

Would be surprised if this historically significant memorial was removed from this particular battlefield.

Lee and the Virginians (as represented and commemorated by this monument) were such an important and integral part of the events that occurred at this place. In my view, to remove this monument would materially detract from any telling of the story of what happened here - its absence would reduce future accounts to part explanations for visitors.
