I've been doing research on my GGGrandpa Isaac Jones, who served in the 1st West Virginia Infantry, Co. B. He did his 3 month stint with the 15th Ohio Infantry Co. B. and then signed up for the newly formed West Virginia military, mustering in as a 2nd Sgt. All went well until the early weeks of January 1862 when he was 'led astray' in Romney, W. VA where he contracted Syphillis. He carried on for a year and three months, fighting in the Port Republic and Cedar Mtn. campaigns (that I know of). Finally in early April 1863 he could carry on no longer and had to be sent to the hospital in Cumberland, MD. Something went haywire around this time and he has several 'Not Stated' in both hospital and company musters that, I am guessing, caused him to be reduced to ranks by Lt. Col. Weddle. After this he is marked 'sick. In hospital in Cumberland, MD' in the company muster and 'present' in the hospital muster. He spends the rest of his term of service in the hospital and is in the hospital when he musters out in September 1864. I am trying to find out what 'Not Stated' means and subsequently why he was reduced to ranks. I also want to learn what his symptoms were after a year and a half with untreated syphillis. Also I want to learn more about the battles , etc that he was in. I am very proud of GGGrandpa Isaac!:hmmm:
