George Washington Wilson

Okay, I'm assuming you are correct in where and when he died. If so, according to his widow you are mistaken about his being born in Louisiana. George Washington Wilson, died 1907 in Van Zandt county, Texas, was born in Tennessee. His widow's name was Cloah or Clora Demaris Wilson. She seems to have spelled it Cloah but her children spelled it Clora. It's also Chloe on the census.

His widow had to apply for a pension three times before being accepted so there are duplicate applications. Giving you all of those plus some of his cards.

Allie,
Let me add my thanks also. You've just done a lot to clear away one of the brick walls Frito and I ran across when researching our g-g-grandparents. It was only recently that I learned her correct name, Clota Demerice Wilson (nee Adams). She was known in the family only as "Cly D".

Apparently as a young woman she also went by Demaris or "Madsie."

I have Wilsons in my family - in fact one of my civil war ggguncles was a George Washington Wilson - so I have first hand experience on how difficult it is to research common names. Any idea of your GW's parents' names? I'm pretty sure I found his grave in Van Zandt (although not positive) and I found her with her parents in 1860, but no grave for her. I also have a census gap, no idea where this family was in 1880.
