My aunt's great grandfather served in the Civil War for the Union he was a Lieutenant.

He was born in 1836.

He died in 1897.

Any help in finding his unit would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

There is a David H. Cannon who served as a sergeant in Company G of the 3rd Missouri State Militia, Cavalry, fighting for the Union. They say he enlisted February 1, 1862 at Troy, Missouri at the age of 26. He was born in Lincoln, Missouri. His information is given as 5 foot 10 and 3/4 inches tall, fair complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair. His occupation was farmer.

Does that sound right?

Possibly.

Was he mustered in as or primarily serve as a Sergeant.

Cause this guy was supposedly a Lieutenant.

I just found him, on Soliders and Sailors Civil War. Mustered in and out as Sergeant.

Wonder if he later served in another unit as a Lieutenant.
