Can anyone give me any information regarding the personal beliefs General George Thomas held towards the institution of slavery? I can find little solid information on the subject. I read brief assertions from some sources that his decision to remain loyal to the Union was partly motivated by a personal dislike of slavery, but I also read brief statements in other sources that he didn't care one way or the other, and owned slaves before the war.

Any help would be appreciated.
