It's interesting to visit the graves of Civil War Generals, Statesmen, Colonels, Surgeons and even navy officers. Some of the markers are much bigger than others. Some are easier to find than others. I have take an entire part of the day or almost a full day before just looking for one grave but the challenge is always rewarding in that you get the chance to visit the grave and pay your respect to that person. Some have changed since the book Generals at Rest. I started visiting graves close to 13 years ago and I try every year to visit as many as possible.

General John B. Magruder(CSA), Trinity Episcopal Cemetery, Galveston, Texas. My SCV Camp laid a wreath at his gravesite for Wreaths Across America in December 2019. We do it every year.

Confederate Brigadier General William Barksdale of Mississippi is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Jackson, Mississippi. Until recently his final resting place was only know to be somewhere within his brother Ethelbert's Barksdale family plot near the General's nephew Harris Barksdale's grave. However ground penetrating radar studies have now confirmed the precise location and it has been identified with a new marker.

This is a very interesting thread and I'm seeing it for the first time. I'm in western NY and the only CW general i know buried in these parts is James S. Wadsworth from the small town of Geneseo, NY. He was mortally wounded at the Wilderness. He has a statue at the courthouse and is buried in a local cemetery.

To get this old thread going, one of my favorites...

All of these were taken today (7/16/2023) at Spring Grove Cemetery located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Gen. Thomas A. Rowley(USA) - Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA, 6/8/2023. I was there with @ErnieMac . I think Ernie looked him up real quick and got a little bit of his story. We both found such a simple stone a bit odd for a General. There wasn't even a flag at his gravesite. I had a handful with me.

Even the date of his death is wrong. Obituary from the 15 May 1892 edition of the Pittsburgh Dispatch.
