Young cadet Grant studied drawing at the US Military Academy. I think he was quite talented!

Did Grant do that? I must say I never came across any mention of his drawing skills. He is usually cited for his fine horsemanship.

In his memoirs, he writes about drawing a few times. Like mentioned above, learning drawing skills lended to other areas needed as a West Pointer. He did write he enjoyed drawing.

Thanks for the information. Drawing or mechanical drawing was certainly a necessary part of the engineering education at West Point.
 
You could draw quite well and having I for detail sure helps when you're looking at a map.
