In April of 1865, after celebrating the surrender of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, and after mourning the death of President Lincoln. General Grant and his staff discuss and decide they must take action and take control of the United States government. General Grant believes he understands and knows how to implement President Lincolns vision of a post-war America. He believes there needs to be a strong ruler in the White house to keep the southern states in line as they return to the union and to expand the nation westward. He and his staff believe America needs a Ceaser to lead America in these trying times and coming challenges.

General Grant marches his army to the banks of the Potomac river demanding the surrender of the United States government to him. What would President Johnson and congress due? Would Sherman and the Union army have followed Grant and make him Ceaser? The American people would have supported him or fight against him? What side would the Southern states support?

So many questions... All Hail Ulysses Grant!! First Emperor, First of his name!

Fiction, to be effective, has to have some basis in fact. The image of a usurper Grant is so contrary to the real man as to render the suspension of disbelief impossible. This premise doesn't work for me.

Maybe, true but I am not try to write a book. there was chaos after Lincoln death and later many people even Grant became unhappy with President Johnson. If the stretch the notion far enough we can make it work. Maybe 6 Months later.

Let's be honest if Grant had wanted to be Ceaser and wanted to grab power with army he could have pulled it off... I think...

אוי ואבוי

Roughly translated: Oy gavalt!

I like to point out the union army effectively took control of our government after the 1868 election. It may out have been by the point of a gun but by the vote...

I like to point out Hen. Hooker suggested the military should take over the government. No one believes there were not rumors or whispers of the army taking control of the government while Grant was in running the army.

First you selected the wrong general.McCllean would have been the wiser choose. Then there was the fact that the there was still the army of Ten. that was still in the field. If Grant was to do this he would have commuicated with other field generals to solidify their support, otherwise he risk another Civil war.Davis would love for this to happen! If he was to do , do like Ceasear, make sure that you have the army behind you.,that the government has challenged you to where you must defend the army and your reputation, make sure that the people are in line with your aims.,take the over the treasury ,and finallly make sure that the nearest general of the same popularity is far enought that you will be able to move in (Pompey)

I will accept this premise if - and only if - Grant rides along with the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, astride a unicorn pony named Buttercup, at the head of a mighty army of hyperintelligent extraterrestrial lizard men armed with ion laser cannons.

Anything else would be just plain silly.

That's just plain משוגע and you know it! :D

Sherman convinces Grant to not run for President, and Grant moves to San Francisco, without resigning his commission and lives relatively happy thereafter.
