What is known about the different relief committees and societies by city in GA? I am aware of the Savannah committees in Richmond and Savannah in 61 however I am looking to better understand the various committees and societies in GA.

By documentation

What they provided- items

Their progression from 61-65.

First hand accounts in diaries and letters

What societies and committees were established in different cities and towns in GA. Separate from the GA relief society.

Thank you in advance for any information provided. Links or books to read are great recommendations. I intend to use this information to further my understanding in regards to my research with the 8th GA. I am not writing a book or article.

I read a couple of books that referred to relief societies in Macon, GA. I believe that it was "Sound of Drums" by Spencer B. King that referred frequently to the activities of the relief societies, and that to a lesser extent "Civil War Macon" by Richard W. Iobst that also referred to them. I hope that I don't have these books reversed in content, as one of them referred far more frequently to the relief societies than the other.

I looked in my copy of the Osprey "Men at Arms" for CS army volume for GA, and it has a couple of paragraphs on the Relief Societies using Clarke county as an example, raising money through subscriptions, taxes and bonds. Buying cloth and turning it into various clothing items, donations of food and medical supplies, ect.

I believe you're correct, but I'm not sure as I only have access to Iobst's book:
