Wife and I inherited this last year from a recently deceased family member. Our cousin who is big into
family history, and the family tree told us that this soldier fought at the battle of
Brandy Station, Virginia, and during the war had at least three horses shot out from under him.
He survived and lived until 1890. We have not removed this likeness from the frame because it
is delicate, but we were told that this might be partly a photograph, and partly a painting.

It sounds like he was really something. After losing his horse at Brandy Station the CS army gave him
some money for his dead horse, and he went home to get another. We were told this.
This likeness was published in some genealogical publications years ago. I doubt that this
frame is 19th century, but I have not removed it from frame. Thanks Kitty.
