Does anyone know if you need to purchase tour tickets in advance for Carter House, Carnton and Rippavilla? Also, is there a fee for McGavock cemetery? Starting to plan our long awaited March trip.

You don't have to have a ticket to visit McGavock Confederate Cemetery. I believe it is administered by an entity separate from the BOFT.

You can purchase tickets at the venue. You can get a combined ticket for Carter House and Carnton and save a little. Can get a combined ticket for all 3.

I would recommend looking into a battlefield tour by Thomas Cartwright. He used to be in charge of the 'Battle of Franklin Trust' and is now running the Lotz House. I doubt there is anyone who tells the story of the battle better.
Book Thomas Cartwright's tour in advance through the Lotz House. He doesn't do them every day and they fill up fast BUT they're well worth it. Thomas is a wonderful storyteller and historian and a good man. You can go wrong with him.

So far i booked both the Carter House Battlefield tour and the tour of Carnton for our visit in March. Apparently the Carter house tour itself doesnt allow pre-booking. Considering the easternflank battlefield tour. has anyone done that?

Thomas was never involved with the Trust. He resigned from Carter House before the Trust was created, almost 20 years ago.

Don't know how many days you'll be there but consider booking Rippavilla and a Spring Hill tour too.

Not really. He never had any desire for the sites to all work together. I know this because I worked at Carnton before the Trust and the Carter House was, quite frankly, antagonistic to any common goals.
Quite a claim from one side of the story. I have a feeling that there is more to this story than you'll be willing to tell. Would be interesting to hear Mr. Cartwright's side...

Feel free to ask him. He knows who I am and he knows what has happened. It is hilarious to hear someone like you, who knows nothing about what has happened in Franklin, question someone who has been working in the field for 20 years. But hey, there are "experts" everywhere, like you, who claimed that Thomas was once ran the Trust.

And I am willing to tell EVERYTHING.
I made an honest mistake and never claimed to be an expert on the history of "who ran what" in Franklin over the years. What I said about Mr. Cartwright being the best when it comes to telling the story of the battle is my opinion and that still stands.

As for what you claim about Mr. Cartwright, you can tell whatever you want, capitalize every word and make the font bold if you like; there's still another side to the story. We can't have the "fuller story" unless we have the side that only Mr. Cartwright can tell.

How dare someone ever question the Great & Powerful Oz, the nerve! 🙄

Good luck getting that. He refuses to take part in anything meaningful in Franklin - has not for about 15 years. Meanwhile, there are about 40 other people working at Carter House and Carnton every day and about a half dozen guys who give great battlefield tours.
