I was perusing Rock Island Auction catalog and came across this interesting carbine (least to me) that I don't think I had seen or heard of before. Any additional info on its numbers, use, ECT would be interesting. Also note it had some type of inlay on reverse stock that has been removed, which seemed curious to me, as whatever it was would have added to its value if it was there, right?

Note if any collectors are interested, by all means go for it, I'm not interested on bidding on/buying it. I'm starting out more interested in traditional ACW muzzle loaders.

Am just interested in its history, from little I've dug up, they seemed to have been accurate, a simple design compared to repeaters, yet still higher rate of fire then muzzleloaders. Why wouldn't an arm like this been more widely ordered and mass produced?

Regarding the saddle ring. Go to my posting link above and in the last entry go to the link and you will see that they used the front swivel mounted on the wrist using the open hole.
