Tell me more! Can I get a value on this?

Hi everyone,

I have an image of a colored soldier and I was looking to sell it to a fellow collector. It's a post war configuration not on cdv stock but cabinet card stock. I'm assuming it would be an image copied or configured post war. It has a back mark but I can't tell what I should ask for it. Auctions are wildly valued. I appreciate any help or ideas. The photographer was rather prolific in his time during the civil war and had pictures taken of the periods most famous people. From the address on the back it seems to be around 1893. It appears to be one of the copies he made of an earlier photo he might have taken. That uniform definitely isn't the tailored fit of the span am war so I think the image is civil war but was made in his new building when the old one burned down.

Pricing for Civil War era photos is strange. Prices are all over the place. One day I'll find a Custer cdv that's not the same price as a week long cruise. But if I were you, probably a few hundred bucks at least. Not sure how much you got into it. I would think it's rare since it's a colored soldier and it's a full body photo

Thanks, you know it was weird I talked to Matt Fleming and he couldn't price it for me even though images are his entire site. I'm sure I could ask Brendan at uniondb too. I was figuring the same I would have asked 200 I guess. I want to be fair to the buyer and not cheat myself. The image has been in my collection for 20 years. I sold him this one too. He wants a cdv of Phil Kearney I've got but I think I will trade for his hard images for that one. I've never sold anything from my collection before, this stuff is hard to price sometimes haha

Reach out to Ron Coddington, he is actually a member and see who he might recommend, in the latest copy of MI he has a small blurb about "Faces of Freedom". This is a traveling exhibit of original portraits of Black Civil War soldiers and sailors.

Looking at some recent auction records the only one that I saw in the ball park of this photo and I don't think it was as neat went for 1700
