Hey all,
Does anybody know the exact date that the 4th and 6th FL Infantry Battalions were formed? Crute and NPS says "late summer and early fall," but nowhere can I find an exact date.
Thanks!

EDIT: Also the 2nd Battalion.

Sure that's not the Regiment? I doubt Crute was a year and a half off.
My apologies, I was thinking regiments and not battalions, two different things. The 4th and 6th battalions formed later and were part of the force at Olustee and were then sent to bolster the ANV Florida Brigade. I have a good book on the ANV Florida Brigade at home, I'll look after work and see if I can find a date in there.

I did a little digging, had a little time to kill. The 7 companies of the 6th Battalion were mustered in September 11, 63. Those companies along with 3 independent companies were mustered in in Virginia in the Spring of 64 as the 9th infantry. Haven't found a date on the 4th Battalion yet.
Thanks! My goal here is to properly document when the independent companies became a battalion, because there doesn't seem to be any battalion organization during the entire year of 1864 for those companies.

Yeah most of these independent companies were already in existence for about a year scattered all over Florida. I was curious myself so I did some googleing the info is out there but you certainly have to dig a little. I'll revisit my Florida Brigade Book when I get home to see if there's more info there. That book if you're interested and don't already have it is "A Small But Spartan Band" the Florida Brigade in the ANV. It's a pretty good read.

Digging a little more now at home I found the 2nd Battalion, June 24, 63 changed its distinction as companies of Partisan Rangers to the 2nd Infantry Battalion. And the 1st Battalion of Special Infantry formed in September of 61 but couldn't find an exact date.
