Foto Friday 9-6

I was 8 when I first went to Gettysburg - which sadly was my last trip. But I was thrilled with the cannons. I was amazed how big they were, and how small I was, and I just loved them at first sight. That day, I made sure I left with a full battery. How many of you remember picking these up as a kid? I don't have picture of real cannons so I mustered in Co. A, 1st VA Artillery once again, for this thread.

Back in the 1960's the Mariner's Museum had collected out front of it's main building a line of cannons, without the carriage. They were nestled into concrete formations that placed them a foot or so above the ground. There were numerous cannons, from small to mid-size if I remember correctly, and were of Civil War vintage. I would throw a leg over and sit on them as one would a horse. I can find no pictures now anywhere I search for old photos from that area and out front of the building. If anybody has some to share, I would be very thankful.
Lubliner.

Saddle up, folks.

Show me and @Lubliner your cannon ridin' skills.

Cannons can be tricky.

A trifle hot but otherwise a beautiful day. I always feel very awed by visiting the Park and very thankful only being a 2 hour drive.
I am always touched by seeing the Mortuary Monument of Everett Peabody, the man who ordered the dawn patrol of Federal skirmishers who met the advancing Confederates far away enough for Sherman's and Prentiss' divisions to form lines of battle
