I always enjoy stopping at Fort Pillow. Its one of the better state owned battlefields and museums I've been to. Think a lot of people dont realize there was two Fort Pillows.
I was impressed by a drive through Johnsonville State Park which is the site of the other big victory by General Forrest. They had a lot of what appeared to be earthworks and they did have cannon. Then they have the site where the Union were unloading their ships for transport down to Sherman. There is also a museum--as I recall, it was on the edge of the park. I hope to visit it more thoroughly someday.
