For everyone's info that may be planning a trip to Fort Henry. I was there last week with BGES. The recent tornado's destroyed/ uprooted hundreds of large trees in the area. Access to Fort Henry is now almost non-existent as all of the trails are now blocked by multiple large downed trees. p.s. chiggers/ticks are also out in force!

A few days ago, Grand Gulf Military State Park at Port Gibson announced a closure due to damage and a power outage caused by a tornado. Not sure that it is fully reopened yet.

A major tornado tore through the woods at Stones River NB on Good Friday over a decade ago. The tangle left behind beggars description. A trail had to be abandoned. Clearing it would have involved heavy equipment & would have been extremely dangerous. Large trees had been uprooted & deposited on top of several other trees. Whole treetops dangled upside down entangled with several trees. Attempts to disentangle the fur ball could set off a disastrous domino effect of cascading limbs.

From what I saw of the woods at Stone River & private land, don't expect an easy or quick clean up, if ever.

Pretty much describes what we saw. Add to that, the area there is not NPS but Bureau of Land Mgmt, and I think the same issue is in play. It has been several months and it appears nothing approaching any kind of cleanup has been started.

The tornado hit Stones River as they were in the midst of a major park extension & new entrance project. It delayed the start of the road project, etc for a year.

A limb from a storm damaged tree in my yard spontaneously dropped off & hit me on the head. Resulted in 41 staples across my scalp, broke C-1 & 2. T- 3&4 plus my left shoulder blade. Storm damaged trees are not called widow makers for no reason.
