Forrest Forrest vandalized again

So are you saying the grave of Forrest was moved?

Yes, it was. He stated in his will he wished to be buried in Elmwood Cemetery with his men, which was done. About 1905, they put up the equestrian statue and set aside the park land. With Willie's permission, they disinterred the general and his wife, and put them under the statue in the park.

And on top of it, it's Willie's (what, 2x or 3x?) great-grandkids don't want Forrest moved.

Well, that's why I said earlier it could be resolved in a satisfactory way but it's too good for other purposes. One thing many people don't know, whichever side of the question they are on, is that when Forrest died over 500 black people came to the viewing, which was held at his brother Jesse's house in Memphis, and 1,000 plus walked in the funeral procession. I can't think of any other prominent Confederate who had any people other than his former slaves and servants do that. Many might not believe that, or assign other reasons to the event, but I can understand why they came. I would not go to see Sheridan off but I'd go to Crook's funeral.

I'd of gone to Crook's funeral, but I wouldn't of gone to Nelson Miles'.

I asked, but no one has told me exactly who his living descendants are. Some girl claiming to be a descendant showed up on the forums asking for research to prove it, but left and was never heard from again after she turned out to be a third cousin.

Thanks for the link. This part is sad reminder of what some of our ancestors had to live through:

...Bank stocks, bonds, all personal property,
all accumulated wealth, had disappeared.
Thousands of houses, farm-buildings, work-
animals, flocks and herds, had been
wantonly burned, killed, or carried off. The
land was filled with widows and orphans
crying for aid, which the universal destitution
prevented them from receiving.
- Lt. Gen.
Richard Taylor, CSA (Destruction and Reconstruction
p. 236).

All of which southern Unionists had predicted in 1860 and 1861. Sadly, their warnings were ignored.

I always wondered. What does Forrest's voice sound like? I always imagined it being a bit of a brusque frontiersy West Tennessee or Deep South drawl, a calm but constant stern tone inflection in his mannerism.
His voice probably sounded like Fess Parker (Daniel Boone) or Rock Hudson (The Undefeated)
