Hi all!

Been offered this 9th Massachusetts Infy. Forage cap. Was wondering if I could get your opinions on it.

Seller says it's an officer's private purchase example.

Hoping it's authentic as it would look absolutely killer with my 9th Mass. ID disc.

Thanks in advance for any feedback y'all can offer!

Interesting look forage cap. The only thing I know about telling age on hats is looking under the horn and the 9 to see if the outline of the fading is under that, I forgot I do know another thing paging @Package4

Defo an interesting looking cap. I always get suspicious when I see caps with bells and whistles like the one I posted. Thanks for the tag as well!

Unfortunately it appears to be a post war cap made for reunions and GAR. A true officers cap would not have a two piece sweatband or patent leather brim, in addition the liner would have one material and most likely the makers mark. An officers kepi, most likely would not have enlisted mans brass.

Nice piece, but depending upon price I would pass. When I get time I'll post a few authentic officers forage caps.

I have a feeling the reason the top liner has been replaced is it had the makers mark, which would have proved it being post war.

Thank you! The seller asking "wartime prices" so I think I'll pass on it.
