Cool find. Obviously Not the same horse in question in the ongoing thread ...but he probably rode quite a few horses during the duration. A horse still 'reliable' in 1878 would probably be a youngster in 1864-65 so maybe one he rode when not in the active front but would still qualify as one he rode 'during the war'. Great find though! Newspapers.com find?

Maybe the "looks well and reliable" was referring to the General?
 
P.S. William Henry Stiles is what our camp is named for. He is also in Savannah but had a house in Euharlee. His son William Jr. was killed when a bull gored him opening wounds he got in the war. Buried in Stiles Cemetery in Euharlee.
