Dugan's Bakery was founded by brothers David and Edward Dugan in 1878 in Brooklyn, New York. They were known for home delivery throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. At their peak the company sold 2 million loaves of bread weekly. It was also known for its signature white trucks. The drivers were fondly remembered as the "Dugan Man".''It was famous for cinnamon buns, blueberry muffins, white bread and pies and cupcakes with thick icing.

The company was sold by the brothers and ceased operating in 1967.

I remember the Dugan man. He came by my Grandma's house and delivered bread and their famous coffee cake. We lived with my Grandma for several years. I always remember the smell of coffee and the coffe cake for breakfast. A fond memory for me from days gone by.

I found this article containing Dugan recipes https://www.nytimes.com/1969/12/18/archives/miss-those-bakery-trucks-here-are-mr-dugans-recipes.html
I might try some!

Memories from childhood. The Sealtest milkman delivered glass bottles to your porch box, Freihofer's bakery up and down the street with horse drawn wagons, Having a sign in the window asking for him to stop. the Coal man dumping Chestnut or pea down the chute to your cellar bin. Shoveling and hauling the ashes out to the curb for pickup. Only a little before me the Iceman cometh. Advertisement on his building "Coal and Ice delivered". Walking down toward the bakery building and inhaling the aroma of fresh bread baking a block away, a little bit of heaven.
