Can't say if it's standard. It's at least in the ones I have on my e-reader. Though I don't have that many non-fiction ebooks with footnotes as in most cases the maps are too small to really see anything.Yes, that's essentially what I have in mind. Is this standard for citations in most ebooks now?
EDIT: I googled a bit and found this article from 2011. Not sure if the situation is still up to date, but it seems footnotes in ebooks are at the discretion of the publishers - just like in printed books.
