Famous chef Hagger created amazing feasts for the eyes and palate in the century before the war. His were no less astonishing than what women faced with shortages invented. Cake with no flour, really?? Hagger, sorry, you've been one-upped in creativity.

With shortages in flour making home life difficult, a flourless cake would have been a result of bakers working with what was at hand. Rich in other ingredients 150 years later, not difficult to see the cake bones of our ancestors.

Flourless Cake

Twelve ounces of vanilla wafers, one stick of butter, one half cup of milk, six eggs, two cups sugar (one brown, one white), one cup of coconut, and one cup of nuts of your choosing. Crush vanilla wafers, then beat eggs, butter, sugar and milk. Add vanilla wafers, coconut and nuts to the mix. Bake in pan for 90 minutes at 350 degrees.

Robert does Mrs P have the recipe. I love chocolate and would love to make.
I don't think so but I'm sure you can find a good one by googling. A number of restaurants feature it here, some better than others but all good. And MrsP says that without flour it's not fattening!
