Uniform of CSN Lieutenant Sardine Graham Stone who was from Alabama and served aboard the CSS Florida, Flag pictured is the ensign of The CSS Florida . these artifacts were on display in the Alabama Archives and History building. they are not currently on display. Lt Stone is buried in Mobile in Magnolia cemetery

Lieutenant Stone resigned from the U.S. Naval Academy upon the secession of Alabama, and was appointed as an acting midshipman in the Confederate Navy on April 13, 1861. He served in the defenses of New Orleans aboard several vessels, including the ironclad CSS Manassas, and also served in the Mobile Squadron aboard CSS Baltic. He was reassigned to the Florida's crew when John Newland Maffitt ran the cruiser into Mobile Bay for refitting and re-crewing; he served aboard the Florida for the rest of that ship's active career, until she was captured in the neutral harbor of Bahia, Brazil, by USS Wachusett. He was imprisoned at Fort Warren until January 26, 1865.
