Shows a CS Officer in Brest France


he was apparently a member of the CSS Florida

The written last names shown at the top on the back of the picture are 'Hough - or Bryan?'.

Thought this writing is suggestive of the officers who might have served on the CSS Florida at the relevant time and is the subject in the picture. They might be either,

'W. D. Hough' (Captain's Clerk),

or 'George Dwight Bryan' (Midshipman/Master),

The photo was likely taken in the period between Aug. 23, '63 and Feb. 12, '64, while the Florida lay in the French naval dock at Brest. (Seems Hough served on the Florida in '64; Bryan from '62 to '64).
