Good Morning Everybody, hope you are all well.
We are going to Gettysburg for a week next week. We are planning to day trip down to Harpers Ferry one of those days, not exactly sure which. Is there any MUST see sites while we are there? I had no idea how close it was to Gettysburg! I do know a little of the history but not nearly enough YET. We'll only be there for a day so I want to cram as much as we can in.

Thanks in advance for your time and replies!!!!

There's an Excellent Visiters Center at Harpers Ferry, you may want to start there.
or, John Brown's Fort, train bridge, and the lower town will keep you busy for a good while.
Next, Ruins of Virginius Island. Now from here EVERY THING is up hill walk.
Lockwood House
Bolivar Heights is the easier to get to of the 3 heights (Maryland and Loudoun)
and there are some old trenches, cannons ect. there.
A few miles down the road to Charles Town you can see the courthouse John Brown was convicted in,
and there is another museum behind the library.

I think Harper's Ferry is my favorite CW site to visit. The old town has a flavor of the time and a wonderful visitor center with a bookstore, where I have bought many CW books. Above the John Brown Fort you can stand and look out at the mountains and the waters below. Years ago you could park there, and you still can occasionally find a parking spot in town, but we usually use the shuttle across the street from the park. Hiking up to the church you can visit a cemetery which has graves including Robert Harper who founded the town and view the beautiful scenery. Antietam is my next favorite site to visit.

Yes, parking spaces can be pretty tough to find, and walking any where is on a very steep grade, and hard on the older folks. Standing at the fort you can see why before becoming Harpers it was simply called just "the hole".

Beautiful place.

It really is a spectacular place to visit.

Lunch at a little hand-cut french fry shop half way up the hill. May still be there. We recomend it.
Appreciative service, never the dismissive, condescending tourist trap attitude.

Harpers Ferry one on our list of a fantastic, beautiful place to visit.

Getting out of Los Angeles we re-awaken to there's a beautiful USA out there unlike Tinseltown. Far from it.
