Ive been a relic hunter since I was 14 but really didn't start buying stuff for my collection until I got a job. We always talked about the 2 Holy Grail's of CS state buttons, Florida and Arkansas but they are really hard to come by as the populations of those 2 states was very low so not that many troops which means not that many buttons which translates to RARE.
While I was setup at the Chattanooga CW show a few weeks back, an older gentleman stop by my table and ask if I bought CS items. I told him I did. He handed me a small case with 4 buttons. When I took a look I should have been wearing my brown shorts as I almost well you get it. In the case were 4 rare buttons and one was an Arkansas along with a NC Pine Tree and 2 Texas buttons. He told me the Arkansas button was on the front cover of a 1982 North South Trader magazine. After an hour of haggling we came to a deal and I paid him but told him if he would to please bring me the magazine and low and behold the next day he did. I also got him to write up where he dug the others, which he did.
The Arkansas is rare in itself but the provenance on this is AWESOME. It has a stand-up shank and the pre war Horstmann & Allen bm and still retains a lot of gold gilt.
He dug the 2 Texas buttons on Pumpkin Ridge behind the Crown Corn Factory which was on Gen Lee's retreat route after the battle of Antietam. It hard to believe the Texas cuff button was dug but you can see from the back that it was dug.
He could not remember where he dug the Pine Tree button. I could be brain dead and I would remember where I dug it but back in the early days they were digging so much stuff it would be hard to remember. He told me he had it written down some where and would try a find it. All in All it was a VERY good show for me.

, makes me believe it was an early find. Sadly most things don't come out of the ground as nice now as they did 50 years ago, my own meager finds over the decades attest to this 
Being pictured in North South Trader is about as good as it gets for provenance. Never had a relic make the cover but did get a Virginia sword plate featured in field finds. A copy of that 2002 North South trader is tucked away in the safe with the plate.
