Federal IV Corps Badge

[Remember1864]

Looking for period examples of this badge. Specifically in and around the time of the Battle of Franklin, TN. (30 NOV 1864) Anyone have any period images, know of museum examples, or own copies of this insignia?

A quick internet search provides this information. The IV Corps, (as part of the Army of the Cumberland), adopted its' triangular badge 26 April 1864.

Online research has turned up nothing. Found one example in Time-Life's "Echoes of Glory, Arms and Equipment of the Union" on page 173. (This one attributed to the 2nd KY Inf.) The only other example
I've found is in the "Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia" by Francis Lord. Volume II, page 43 exhibits one small badge but the photograph is of poor quality and of no use.

Sir, should you have an opportunity to have the "Atlas" that goes with the Official Records of the Rebellion at a library; the 4th Corps Badge/Flag is illustrated there.

The Fourth Corps Banner Adopted April 26, 1864; Headquarter's flag is red with a northwest - left corner in midnight dark blue/black with an eagle with wings spread. Tips of wings upwards. 4th Corps - 1st Division is Red body, left quarter top black/dark midnight blue with a white line from Northeast corner to the Southwest corner [/]. Second Division-- an "[X]" in white in the small square of black/midnight dark blue. Third Division is a straight pipe line North and South in addition to the X (six point touch to the edge) in white on the black/midnight dark blue square in left corner on red. Red body has no interruption-totally solid red.

It is rather a big book in the library.

The flag would be adopted 8 months prior to the Battle of Franklin. My opinion these Corps flags would have been flying within three months of adoption or less--

Only other option would be to contact the U.S. Army Quartermaster's office to see if they have any previous banners. But, so far--found nothing.
