One of our sons has been in a situation where he slept for some time in a tent in January, or in the open and woke with snow on his face. He swears it was not all that uncomfortable, but I can hardly believe him. These tents don't look like they would be much protection from the cold. The cabins in the background are perhaps the officers quarters? Not sure why the didn't build winter quarters for all the men. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the Nashville campaign can elaborate?

I think I can make out the company streets............barely. 🤔
Forgive my old eyes, but it looks to me as if companies are formed in U shaped groups, arranged next to each other down the line. I have read descriptions of officer's tents being placed "at the head of the company street" so that would, I suppose, lend itself to a U shape. Is that what others are seeing too?
And does anyone know where would the latrines be placed? The only latrine photo I can recall at the moment is the one of the sinks at Andersonville?

Lotta chimneys in those pictures too.
The chimneys are what I find most interesting along with the proximity of the camp to the earthworks. There are other images from this series of shots at Nashville that show the "empty" camp(s) without tents/canvas (presumably packed up by the men prior to the attack/advance) and the chimneys remain showing each tent/shelter location.
