A couple of trips back, I was humming the song "The City of New Orleans" whilst gazing out the window at some old mining towns. The Conductor heard me and joined in.....The trips usually run in around 500-600 miles, into the night, so that many of the descriptions ring familiar to me:smile:

Great song, I kind of like the Willie Nelson version myself. My favorite was The Wreck of ol 97

My favorite "train song" of all time. I saw Steve Goodman at a bluegrass festival in 1976 in Galax, Virginia (North Carolina/Virginia border) and have a photo I took backstage of him and fiddler extraordinaire Vassar Clements. Also liked John Prine' s line "Mr. Peabody' s coal train done hauled it away" in his poignant song "Paradise"'

Kinda ironic how some of the best songs out there involve:
Trains
Pick-up trucks
Old Dogs
Ex-wives
Rainy Days

We will have to stick with Trains, though, because ever vigilant eyes will be ready to put us in Campfire Chat purgatory, otherwise known as slow death for a thread.
