On behalf of my home state of Nevada, I am pleased to announce that our nation's 36th state has the honor of displaying the original Emancipation Proclamation document.
The historic document, reportedly only on display once a year, will be the feature exhibit at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno from October 30-November 2, 2014 as part of Nevada's Sesquicentennial celebration.
Nevada, known in part as the Battle Born State, was ratified as the 36th state in the Union on October 31, 1864. A telegraph was received in Congress on that date from Carson City containing the entire state Constitution for a vote on statehood.
I've been privileged to have viewed the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution in Washington, D.C. I hope to get a chance to view the E.P. this weekend, and share some significant portion of American history with my family.
If any of you happen to be within a day's drive (or, heck, a day's flight for that matter) of Reno, Nevada, I encourage you to make the pilgrimage to view the E.P. if you've not yet seen it in person.
