Since they're unmarked with either a date or manufacturer the usual way to approximate is the date of their being regulation U.S. issue; unfortunately, this style remains regulation to this day for officer's full-dress blues! (Enlisted versions for the sword belt changed in the 1870's.) Fortunately, the manufacturing details have changed considerably; these solid cast-brass types changed over to stamped brass in the later 1800's. Yours (and my similar one) are most likely wartime production, simply because of the numbers involved, since virtually every Union officer wore one. It's also worth mentioning that these were NOT issued by the Federal Government - officers have always been required to purchase their own uniforms, arms, and equipment from private suppliers.
