Down Time Coming...

To All,

I may not be as active on the forum as I would like for the next few days, as I will be preparing to attend the Civil War Reenactment at Hale Farm, Ohio, this weekend, with my Grandson, Corey.

I have just turned over to him all my Union army clothing and gear so he will continue the Hamilton tradition of civil war reenacting even unto the next generation.

We both need to find new period headgear, brogans for him, and shirts and a pair fo black wool pants for Grandpa.

Until that time,
Unionblue
Enjoy you family time Unionblue!!!

To All,

Well, my Downtime is done and I thought I would report on what happened while I was away from the forum.

Corey, my grandson, came over to our house to spend Thursday and Friday with us, so we began our trip to the Hale Farm Civil War reenactment from my place a bit after 10AM Saturday morning. After two hours on the road, we pulled into spectator parking at Hale Farm and hit the Sutler's Row.

There we ran into my friends Kacey and Kathy Krager, who own K and K Mercantile. After much remembering of old reenacting days, they sold Corey an excellent period style shirt and told him were to get civil war brogans for his size 14 feet! (He is a big boy, standing over six feet and he is just reaching his 16th birthday.)

We took Kacey's advice and went to the Fall Creek Sutlery and managed to fine (after trying on 5 other pairs of brogans!) a pair of 12, EEE width, brogans that fit the boy perfectly.

We then stuck around to watch the recreation of the first day's battle of Gettysburg, which was superbly done. A great job was done by the Union cavalry boys and the Confederate infantry during the battle. I am also certatin that two brass cannon were supplied by the Ohio First Light Artillery, authentic Napoleons from the Civil War era themselves. I think there was a 12 pounder and a 6 pounder participating with one Union gun over run by Confederate infantry. Great show!

Now that Corey and I are completely outfitted, we next plan to attend the Civil War reenactment at Zoar Village, Ohio on the first weekend in September.

I can hardly wait.

Sincerely,
Unionblue
