Edged Wpns Dog River Saber

I lighted up the photos. It looks like the blade has been removed from the handle and a resto of the wrap was done. The top of the blade that is hammered down to attach it to the guard and tighten it up has been ground down in order to remove the blade. It should look like the photos below. How long is the blade?

I could really use some sources on how to tell what has been done to a sword over its history, such as rehilting and what types of usage causes what types of blade damage. Can you make any suggestions?

There is no definitive books on this. It come from YEARS of collecting, buying and selling CS swords which are one of the most faked CS items that there is.

I and most of us have made either minor or major mistakes in collecting. I must say I recovered nicely from mine over the years. These Rebel swords as UVCRelics stated are the "most faked CS items". I watched an auction recently waiting for the item I wanted to come up to bid. There was a Nashville Plow Sword estimated to go at $3000-5000. I watched it skyrocket to $10,000. That did not include the house premium of 20-25% and possible taxes. I collect the Union side and if by mistake or someone's error I end up with something CSA (as in my Enfield) then so be it. Simple put I can't afford CSA item prices. BUT if I was a collector buying CSA items I would want someone like Mr. UVCRelics standing besides me giving me a tap on my right rear should saying it's good to go or a tap on my left rear should saying it's fake and don't touch it with a 10 foot pole!
P.S. I did something similar to that over 40-45 years ago as a young collector at shows. When there was no Internet. Saved me from getting ripped off.
