Does Anyone know what this is ?

[7th Mississippi Infantry]

A friend of mine asked if I knew what the above object may be. As she was asking for the new owner, she could only tell me that it was "solid" and acquired as part of a Civil War collection. No other details were available.

My first thought was it's either a two piece drum major's baton or perhaps some type of ceremonial mace/staff.

Does anyone know what this may be ?

I'm going to say that the engraved piece is 2 to 3 inches. using that as my guide I would say its around 24 inches, swagger stick as a drum majors baton was longer that that. Just my thought.

i don't think they are parts of on thing, more parts of a set as the left one is more or less round whereas the right one is flat

the right one could be a fitting sheath for a dagger (which was my first thought)

It does look like a sheath, but I'm told that it's a solid piece of wood.

if it's like for an arabian blade you don't need that many sod to fill it

It looks like a presentation walking cane. It has been broken over the years, pieces are lost and missing, and only the handle and tip remain.
Just a guess.

Good point. I'll see if the owner can read the inscription.

The owner just said each section was about 12 inches long and the engraving was three monogramed letters.

He's also getting a lot comments on Facebook from others that also think it's probably parts of a presentation swagger stick.

if it were ONE piece why would it be bigger at the tip?
