Documentary of Quantrill.

My grandfather's family lived along the French Broad just over the state line in Madison County, NC.
I believe some of our people were situated near Del Rio or something like that. One of my GGGGGPas had the ferry crossing franchise over the Nolichucky, but I don't know the precise location. Some of their stories were recorded in a book, Over the Misty Blue Hills: The Story Of Cocke County, Tennessee.

All well and good but how many Jayhawkers were actually killed at Lawrence vs just random male civilians who had nothing to do with the Jayhawkers?
Leftyhunter
If Jim Lane and his cohorts did not want the civilians of Lawrence to be targeted, maybe he should not have intermingled amongst them. Maybe Lawrence should not have been used as a previous staging point for raids into Missouri, as well as a collection point for stolen property obtained from these raids.

I have asked Lefty before to source some attempts of the good people of Lawrence to have the criminal jayhawkers removed and prosecuted, surely there would have been lots of complaints to the Governor, Federal Marshalls, or even federal troops in Fort Scott and Leavenworth if they weren't complicent and happy to benefit off the stolen goods and blood of others, but apparently his sources are silent. If one is willing to go along with criminal activity, last I knew its called being an accessory, not innocent.....

Historians note there were warehouses full of stolen goods, and that stolen goods were auctioned off in the streets, its hard to think they didn't notice it was going on. Even churches were noted to have been full of stolen property from other churches...…. Its even been noted an expression for a horse with good bloodlines was "out of Missouri by Jennison" recognizing its stolen status.

Lawrence had a home guard militia, and I'd love to see the muster rolls so that they could be cross referenced with the men who died in the raid. I believe we'd find that a significant number of the victims were members of that militia. The home guard's muskets were locked up at the time of the raid. Lawrence also had uniformed militia encamped on the edge of town. They were attacked first.
