"Disease" Question

As far as I can tell there was not a Captain Willie or Wylie for any company of the 50th Georgia. There was a Captain Jeremiah W. Wells who commanded Company H (aka Colquitt Marksmen)

Well maybe you can help me clear this up a bit. I've read about Georgia 50th that there was 2 one regular Army and once of volunteers but its only what information I've found on open Web sites. But I think they were perhaps referring to the Company names. I did find 2- 4th Cavalry's. One 4th Georgia Cavalry under Captain Avery. They served in Tennessee and other places during the war of course.
The other 4th Cavalry was Under Georgia 4th Cavalry Clinch Volunteers, formed March,1862, I did read where early in my relatives enlistment, that his original company under Captain John R Osteen but was later was sent home due to disease and sickness and he returned later a month or some time later and was then reassigned under Captain Wylly to Company "H", as in the Adjunct Office reply to soldiers pension on file at the state of Florida Records showed. But I've also seen Captain Wylly as Captain of Company "I" also. I have seen Captain Wylly's name several times but IM thinking that perhaps with Captains and Companies taking heavy losses there was probably a lot of combining of companies and Captains Left toward the end of the war.
This is really interesting History I'd appreciate any solid leads or web-sites you may have.

A website that may answer some of your questions follows. Clinch's command was originally 5 companies that received the designation of the 3rd Battalion, Georgia Volunteer Cavalry. By December 1862 it had grown to 10 companies one of which, Company I was commanded by Captain Thomas S. Wyllys. In early 1863 the unit was reorganized and, since it had the requisite 10 companies and 1000 men, renamed the 4th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Cavalry. In the new regiment Captain Wyllys commanded Company H.

Thanks for that web-site that's one I haven't come across so far. But I don't have a lot of access to the net. In just glancing over this site, I see what your saying about Cpt. Wylly being over 2 Company designations. So that clears up more of the inconsistencies. Which proves consistent record keeping by the South.
Old Records are so historically educational to research!
