Great photo, the period fashions they're wearing are fabulous!! Very handsome couple, hope your grandad pursued his "date" with a delightful outcome!!!

Well, no. This lady was Louise Doirsom of York, Pa, down the road from Gettysburg. 2 years later he married my grandmother so he an Louise apparently didn't hit it off for the long run.

Heres a 1909 panoramic photo of DD. The tree in your historic family photo appears to be on the right. Was trying to id tree species by bark but no luck so was trying look for tree crown shape and found this pic. Elms have a vase shape and considering the bark thats my guess. But then again they tend not to fork at the base.

Look to his left shoulder and head. You should see a sideways L

When I was standing there with photo in hand, I found several points of sameness. Not just one but several. I have no doubt it is the same place. The tree is gone today though.

I think -when the tree died, something shifted a bit. But the angle in the rock behind is not found anywhere else at Devils Den that I have seen. I could have missed another location of course.
