Good Day Civil War forum! This civilian g-g-g-granddaughter of one CW vet Andrew Redman of 134 PA co D volunteers cannot figure out if Andrew was in the artillery or infantry-and furthermore, what does the "A" mean on his gravestone?

AHHHH Thanks you so much-Which leads me to my next question-do you think you can pay to replace your ancestor's stone at the National Cemetery in Dayton Ohio if it is getting worn out????-I think a phone call to Ohio is in order....

I would call the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)...they handle headstones for vets. Although if they would replace it, it won't look anything like the original that is there now. Good Luck:)

You can ask, but since the stone is in pretty good shape and legible, I doubt they'd approve replacing it regardless of who paid for it. The old stone is worn, but it has *patina*, that gives it weight that a new stone would never have.

You are right-it won't look the same HMMM-I better consult the family over that one!

Next question:

By cross-referencing some dates on a pa veterans card & family info, my father & I believe that Andrew was seriously wounded his first time out of the gate at Fredericksburg (12/13/16). I have already requested records from the National Archives. Any other sources I should look to find hospital records from the battle?
